Stormy Weather

As I write it is late April and the rain is belting down outside. It will still be belting down when I take Charlie the golden labrador to the park in the morning. At the moment he’s snoring at the top of the stairs here.

I ought to introduce myself. My name is Terry Miles and I’m blogging in a private capacity as a careers adviser and manager in Connexions. I and my esteemed team provide very specialised independent professional information, advice and guidance (IAG) to young people with disabilities, their parents and carers in a south London borough. The views expressed are entirely my own and do not in any way represent those of my employer, with whom I reserve the right to disagree from time to time without losing my job. I promise not to bring them or my profession into disrepute.

You ought also to be informed that I am 60 years old and have spent all the years since 1982 in this profession although not all of them in this job or for this employer or in this part of the country.

Writing a blog means a long term commitment to regular postings designed to stimulate understanding, inform, provoke, raise awareness, occasionally sell and occasionally make you the reader laugh or cry. And come back regularly.

Writing a blog that does all that for you means I have to focus on my industry, my niche within it and the experiences of myself, my colleagues and my clients within it. So I am not writing this blog just for the reader. The process of providing accurate information, news, comment and debate will make me more effective in my role. And that can only be good for everybody.

So welcome to the beginning of this adventure. Lets see how far we get.
